If Not Now, Then When? Using Europe 2020 to Restore Confidence and Growth
Written by Executive Director Ann Mettler, this e-brief lays out how the Europe 2020 strategy can be used to move from immediate crisis management to restoring confidence and growth. The overriding priority now must be to change the narrative and demonstrate that Europe and the member states can pro-actively shape and develop medium- and long-term policy agendas rather than only formulate rushed and defensive responses in reaction to previous shortcomings.
Building a Better Future in an Age of Transformation
Launched within the rubric of the Government of the Future Centre, a joint initiative by the Lisbon Council, College of Europe and Accenture, the report is based on four case studies prepared by College of Europe students. Twenty College of Europe Class of 2010 (Charles Darwin promotion) students were chosen competitively to take part in the pilot project. They were organised into four teams, and sent on two visits each to meet and evaluate the challenges faced by four leading public-service agencies: Pôle Emploi in Paris; Hospital Clinic in Barcelona; Brønnøysund Register Centre, operators of the Altinn portal in Oslo, and Dublin City Council.
